Successful December Programme
The band fulfilled a busy programme of 8 events in the build up to Christmas. On 1st Dec the Training Band, supplemented by a few Main Band members, led residents in carols at the switching on of the Somersham village lights. The first Carol Concert was held on 4 Dec at Highfield School in Ely. Although the performance did not go as smoothly as the band would have wished, it was well received by an enthusiastic audience. On 7 Dec the band made its annual trip to Hemingford Grey to once again lead local residents in carol singing on the green. The mince pies and hot mulled wine are always welcome at this outdoor event. On 11 Dec the Training Band, once again supplemented by some Main Band members, entertained members of the St Ives Heron Club. This annual event is always popular with band members and, as usual, involved the active participation of an enthusiastic audience. The two main Carol Concerts were held at Somersham Church and Ramsey Church on 13th and 14th Dec respectively. The Somersham concert was arguably the highlight of the December programme. The concert was well attended and a particularly good performance by the band was complemented by some enthusiastic carol singing by the audience. Recordings from this concert can be found on the Recordings page of this website.
On 21st and 24th Dec band members gathered under the Somersham bandstand for some traditional carols to entertain local residents and shoppers and also to raise some much needed funds. For this the band would like once again to thank the residents of Somersham for their generosity and continued support.
